Artist Statement

I worked in the rare book trade for many years. I didn't set out to do that, but I was also never unhappy with the work, as I have loved literature and the objects in which it has been contained since it was first revealed to me. In connecting my art directly with texts by my favorite writers, I feel an even deeper and more intimate relationship to their work, and a profounder understanding of and admiration for what they have created.

Over the years I have treated texts by Walter Abish, Samuel Beckett, Jorge Luis Borges, Mary Caponegro, Paul Celan, Lydia Davis, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Jessica Hagedorn, Friedrich Hölderin, Siri Hustvedt, John Keats, Robert Kelly, Lydia Millett, Franz Wright, and Luisa Valenzuela, among many others. My unique artist's books are held in many private and public collections.
